Relationships don't typically fall apart overnight. Over time, relational tension can fracture even the strongest connections by putting a strain on communication and making intimacy feel forced, unsafe, or nonexistent.

WHAT IS COUPLES THERAPY?

Couples therapy is a highly structured, professional, compassion-filled 'neutral zone' where we come together as adults to discuss differences. You will explore both yours and your partner's needs under the grounded support of a qualified, crisis-aware, attachment-based therapist.

Along the way, we'll learn practical communication techniques, simple and effective conflict resolution strategies, and explore your attachment styles. Psychoeducation definitely plays a part in our collaborative dialogue, and you and your partner will gain clarity and insight into the why behind your relational patterns.

IS COUPLES THERAPY RIGHT FOR US?

Our short answer is – yes. In our experience, we've found the adage is true. 'The grass is greener where you water it.' Relationships are hard, because there's an art and a science to building a love that lasts. Research consistently shows that couples therapy can be highly effective for partners, and in fact, many couples report having a positive experience going to therapy together.

SIGNS IT'S TIME TO SEEK PROFESSIONAL COUPLES COUNSELING
You're experiencing a crisis or a turning point in your relationship.
You repeatedly argue, but the arguments are unproductive.
Communication breakdowns are disrupting daily life.
There is significant emotional distance.
You are experiencing intimacy issues or sexual disconnection.
There has been infidelity.
Parenting stress and/or co-parenting conflicts have become overwhelming.
Major life transitions or past wounds are impacting the quality of your relationship.
Substance use, compulsive habits, or recovery are impacting the relationship.

These types of relational issues typically don't resolve on their own. In fact, they tend to get worse. Expert, compassionate couples counseling can be the respectful, emotional intervention your relationship needs to get back on track.

HOW COUPLES THERAPY WORKS

We take a trauma-informed, depth-oriented, psychodynamic approach to couples counseling. Meaning, our couples counseling sessions are structured, grounded, and solution-focused. We help slow down reactive cycles by providing stability for productive conversations to occur. Because it's not about who's right. It's about what's actually going on and happening beneath the conflict.

The goal of couples therapy is to help partners understand the root cause of the turmoil and then work toward resolving the issue.

Couples therapy is an excellent outlet for you and your partner to receive compassionate accountability, however, please note that we do not assign blame or take sides.

We remain neutral and focused on…
  • Identifying destructive patterns and relational dynamics
  • Understanding emotional needs, attachment styles, and nervous system responses
  • Addressing unresolved trauma, betrayal, or chronic stress
  • Rebuilding emotional safety, connection, and trust
  • Establishing respectful parameters and strategies for effective coparenting
WHAT TO EXPECT IN COUPLES THERAPY

Most of the time, arguments are just symptoms of a deeper problem. Instead of getting lost in surface level details, we'll focus on the underlying patterns and emotional needs that drive relational dynamics. Our collective goal will be to work collaboratively together to uncover the deeper emotional drivers causing the conflict. This strategy will give real change the opportunity to unfold.

Our work often includes…
Relational Life Therapy (RLT): Developed by Terry Real, this direct, action-oriented approach helps individuals and couples identify unhealthy relational patterns, take accountability, and build more honest, connected, and respectful relationships.
Polyvagal techniques – Mapping relational patterns and understanding triggers
Psychoeducation – Teaching practical communication and de-escalation tools
Attachment-based therapy – Exploring attachment dynamics and emotional needs
Trauma-informed therapy – Addressing unresolved trauma or betrayal
Emotional regulation – Strengthening emotional resilience and accountability

Our counseling strategy is to neutralize tension, foster safety in the present moment, and work toward long-term relational health – all while equipping you and your partner with practical tools and easy-to-apply techniques to practice between sessions. We are committed to working with care, respect, and professionalism to ensure both partners feel seen, heard, and supported.

COUPLES THERAPY IS WORTH IT

Research shows, and our experience confirms, that couples therapy can accomplish incredible breakthroughs when both partners are willing to show up consistently and engage honestly in the process. We are honored to work with courageous couples who are committed to doing meaningful work even when it's uncomfortable, but please rest assured. We do all we can to keep you grounded and emotionally supported so you are as comfortable as possible.

Whether you're trying to repair or strengthen your relationship, couples counseling can…

  • Reduce conflict and emotional reactivity
  • Improve communication and emotional connection
  • Rebuild trust after rupture
  • Provide a structure toward reconciliation
  • Help you and your partner create a strong, fulfilling relationship
